Shadey's Art Related Nonsense (sculpts, commissions, etc.) [10 Apr 2009|07:01pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | "Traffic" - Richard Shindell ]

Just covering my bases by posting here also. Sorry if you've seen this stuff already!

I'm out of school and not having a lot of luck with the job search (hooray for the economy)... so I am making things. Perhaps you would like some things? Perhaps you know someone who would like some things? I'm not sure how much interest there is, but I thought I would try.

The end. :D
I am going to go play Pokeymons.

Films! [07 Feb 2009|04:43pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]
[ music | "Get a Grip" - Semisonic ]

Right, I never updated LJ with this yet.... (sorry to people who have already seen this elsewhere).

I graduated from VFS at the end of December! It was a really worthwhile experience, I learned a lot and met some cool people. I also made two short films during my time there. So here they are:

Classical Film (The Bear King):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dz4eLGF4Ek&fmt=18
Hand drawn and inked with a crowquill pen, then digitally colored. Backgrounds are all Photoshop painted of course. :p This film was made in about 4 months from start to finish.

Flash Film (Sparks):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brX4NsSxwbY&fmt=18
We then had about 4 weeks to learn Flash and make a film. This is what I did.

Holy crap did I hate Flash at first. It is the complete opposite of what is an intuitive way for me to work. But it all came together during like... the last two days. I had to cut a lot of things from my original vision for this film (they were supposed to be spark-squirrels and also have tails that were made of fireworks.. guess how much work that would have been), but at the end I was really pretty happy with it. I did all of my own sound too, which was kind of fun. I think I could make something neat in Flash now.

Obligatory help-me plug:

So, I entered a film contest... The theme is "animals" and the grand prize is $2500, which would make a nice dent in my loan. Films are rated by users and the top 20% are looked at by the judges, and they decide the winner. Voting is closed on Monday (!).

So like.. if any of you guys wanted to register and vote (possibly for my film!), that would be awesome.

Contest Details:

My Film:

I think to "vote" you just watch the film and rate it as 5 stars.

D&D is tonight. I'm excited!

*blinks blearilly* I... dreamed I played Halo. [24 Oct 2007|08:56am]
[ mood | sleepy ]
[ music | "I Like" - Crispy ]

You know, if Halo really was a game that came with a giant personal go-kart style controller, and took place in a multi-tiered underground city with weaponshops and chocobo stables, and starred a hero who was some sort of knight with magical powers, that wore a cloak woven from the pelts/skins of 3 living, talking, wisecracking Digimon sewn together, which could transform into wings, and if the game really did culminate into an ultimate song battle between Life and Death, in an animated sequence, where Death was represented by a gigantic many-tailed anthro (singing) fox, and Life was, presumably, your character.... I think... I think I really WOULD play it. *scratches head*

It is too bad it isn't. *goes back to sleep*

Happy New Year. [09 Sep 2007|07:59am]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | "Coin Song" - Nobuo Uemetsu ]

Celebrating the new year in January always felt so arbitrary to me.... There's not much of a difference between December and January. I also have a distinct lack of interest and a few unpleasant memories associated with that particular official holiday, so I really tend to just pretend it doesnt exist. The start of a new year, the time of renewal has always been, for me, Fall. September. Which might be odd because it's technically when things are all dying or going to sleep, but it's always meant new beginnings, new chances, and new experiences for me (mostly due to school).

I like fall, too. The wind smells good, and the leaves changing colors are pretty. They make lovely rustling sounds on the branches, and crunching sounds underfoot. It's also when its not too hot or too cold to wear my cool leather jackets!

No school for me right now though, for the first time in quite awhile. I miss it.

Anyways, goodnight, and happy new year~

Vancouver Peeps? [09 Aug 2007|04:26pm]
[ mood | awake ]
[ music | "Never Look Back" - Dumonde ]

Kept meaning to post about this and now uhh... its kind of the last minute. Well, for the party.

Anyway, Brian Ford, one of my classmates, is having his first show in Vancouver, at the Zebra Club. Thursday, August 9th, 8-11pm (that's tonight). Paintings, prints, drawings, drinks, tunes, and he's raffling off one of the pieces. The show's also up for all of this month, so for those of you guys who are living in the area, or if you're gonna be around then, you should go check it out, cause his stuff is pretty sweet.

Poster! With more relevant info. )

Worst resolutions ever. [13 Jan 2007|12:44pm]
[ mood | sore ]
[ music | "The Best is Yet to Come" - MGS ]

This meme stolen from Borris who has a journal now, which I did not know. Did you?

In 2007, shadeykins resolves to...
Give up boardfics.
Buy new assassins.
Ask my boss for a batman.
Start a rock fund.
Go to photoshop every Sunday.
Spend more time with my knights.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

Give up Boardfics? Replace perfectly good assassins? And I already go to Photoshop every Sunday! Though to be fair, I DO need to spend more time with my knights.

Also Im still working on being healthy. Having conquered being sick, my body has now decided to be injured. I pulled a muscle in my neck/back or something last week... its no longer immobilizingly painful, but its still annoying. Ah well.

School's started again and it's pretty cool so far.

The Best Laid Plans... [06 Jan 2007|03:43pm]
[ mood | hungry ]
[ music | "Maybe Tomorrow" - Stereophonics ]

I had big plans for Christmas break, oh yes!
They went quite well at first... I finished my last class on a monday, and spent the week eating well, catching up on sleep, and exercising. I would walk Boo for an hour in the morning, then do a work out with DDR in the evening. It was fairly exhuasting, but by the fourth day I was feeling less tired. I was feeling good, too. I was going to spend time doing schoolwork, but also get out of the house, go see a movie maybe, or sketch in a coffee shop somewhere. Call Sean up or something.

But then- I went to work! 8hr shift the day before Christmas Eve, at the busiest game store in town, not so fun. I came home with sore feet and a huge headache, and crashed early without working on much. The next day, guess what? Sick. I hadn't really thought of it, but I suppose stressing my body like that put a strain on the immune system too, and I picked something up from dealing with the general public almost instantly.

So I was sick through Christmas again. Holed up in my room most of the time, huzzah. No walking, and definitely no DDR. I tried to wait for it to go away, but by friday I went to the clinic and was given antibiotics for a sinus infection. Finally started to feel better after that, but didn't manage to feel recovered until a couple days ago. It's hard to draw anything good while youre feeling shitty, so I didnt do much.

Pwa.

I wanted to get my redone website up and running, I wanted to fix up all the projects from this semester (the things that will be going into my portfolio for hte show need to be good), and I was supposed to put everything onto disc to hand into my instructors when I go back (scanned, organized, labelled etc). Come up with concepts for what I want to work on this term. I have half a dozen Christmas gift projects that are semi-complete that I still need to finish and send out...

Well I've... started the website work. I drew some semi-bad sketches of my character for the board's D&D game. And I've watched half a dozen hours of Batman: TAS episodes, and played through the first dungeon in the new Zelda. I suppose that's something... right?

What to do... still lost between styles.

Had a mini crit/talk with an instructor today, so now I'm thinking again.

Shadey indulging in talking about her own work- I won't be hurt if you're not interested. :p )

PS. I finally got a haircut! I think the last one was like... in May. I think Im going to try letting my hair grow longer... I didn't have it cut short for once, so it still goes past my shoulders. I just got it trimmed/styled so I dont look like a goddamn hippy. I feel a little prettier, but it still needs more pink.

Stuff and Things. [09 Dec 2006|02:40am]
[ mood | determined ]
[ music | "Path" - Apocalyptica ]

Time goes so fast now... I'm not really sure what to do about it. I'll stop to look up, and be unsure whether its been one or two weeks since some particular thing has occurred. Everything blends together.

I've got one week + 2 days left of classes, and then Christmas break begins. Technically this just means a shift in stuff I'll be working on (shopping, making Xmas gifts, redoing/fixing projects from during the term, and hopefully getting my new website layout up), but I'm looking forward to it all the same.

I'm also really excited about how my animatic is coming... I think I'll post all my Lunala stuff at once, when its done.

Also, I only work one shift a week... but I asked to have them both off for the coming weeks, and my request was granted. This makes me inordinately relieved.

Tomorrow and Sunday are storyboard days. I hope they turn out okay.

So Pony the 2nd finally grew into her adolescent feathers this week (red!). She looks very pretty, but I thought, sadly I do not own anything that would match! :(

Luckily this was remedied the next day.

We are going to be so pretty together later :3 )

Quotes are always fun. [13 Sep 2006|01:20pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | "Vertigo" - U2 ]

Stolen from CMZ. Go to this site. Hit refresh until you find a total of five quotations that are meaningful to you, reflect your outlook on life, or whatever, and post them.

Some of these are things I really ought to remember more often.

Wear the old coat and buy the new book.

-Austin Phelps

Every minute you are thinking of evil, you might have been thinking of good instead. Refuse to pander to a morbid interest in your own misdeeds. Pick yourself up, be sorry, shake yourself, and go on again.

-Evelyn Underhill

There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart's desire. The other is to get it.

-George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950), "Man and Superman" (1903), act 4

Write something to suit yourself and many people will like it; write something to suit everybody and scarcely anyone will care for it.

-Jesse Stuart

Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.

Open for Commissions [12 Jul 2006|02:40pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | "Right in Two" - Tool ]

I'm taking commissions again during the summer.

If you're interested, hit me up at shadeykins@hotmail.com (for now) with a description of what you're looking for, and I'll be able to quote you a price. Be sure to specify if you're looking for something like my regular work or "ElForto style", how many characters, and whether or not a background is involved. EFA portraits are easier and faster to turn out, so there's a significant discount on them. Single character portraits are easier as well.

Mostly I prefer to take payments through Paypal, but if necessary we can work something else out (money orders).

Speaking of EFA, I know this week's is delayed again already, but it's going to be a little longer. My monitor died this morning, I'm writing this on my laptop right now. :/

The Pot [11 Jul 2006|02:15pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]
[ music | "The Pot" - Tool ]

I love this song. Not because its particularly relevant to anything in my life, but just because rampant angry songs are so much -fun-. Plus it just sounds good.

Tool still makes weird fucking music videos, though.

Hope is a shark. [08 Jun 2006|05:29pm]
[ mood | happy ]
[ music | "Living Dead Girl" - Rob Zombie ]

So my latest mini obsession has been watching random old shows on youtube. I started with Southpark, then wandered to the old animated episodes of Batman, and from there I stumbled across the Justice League cartoons, and Teen Titans. Teen Titans is strangely fascinating despite the constant misuse of anime "takes" and the fact that everyone always seems to be shouting, which both annoy me a lot. I think I like it just because it has Robin in it. It is not a widely known fact, but Robin is my favorite Batman character (and it is not a widely known fact, because it seems like -nobody- likes Robin).

Anyway, finding ordered episodes on youtube is a pain in the ass. So on the way to work, I decided to wander over to HMV to see if they had any box sets (just to look...!). And they didn't. But uh... then I was distracted by bright yellow SALE stickers. I ended up picking up "Volume One" of Batman: The Animated Series for $20 (28 episodes, I guess its the first 2 seasons) and the complete series of Firefly for $25. The stickers said normally $59 and $45 for them, respectively, which makes it look like a pretty good deal. But for all I know, they just like to put things like that on stickers and those are the regular prices. On the other hand, ridiculously expensive is more the norm for box sets. So uh. I didn't have any pressing need to own Batman cartoons, and I've never seen an episode of Firefly, and I just bought Season 1 of The Pretender last month and only watched the first 2 episodes, but... now I have a lot of things to watch! And me who hasnt really watched TV (except for House!) in like 3+ years.

Anyway, I dont even know what Firefly is about (well I guess now I do, I read the back of the box), but the grand consensus of geeks on the internet says that Firefly is supremely awesome, so I figured I ought to give it a try. And geeks on the internet have never steered anyone wrong before.
